John was born in and has spent most of his life in Tooele County and has a deep love for the area.

John graduated from Tooele High School and after serving a mission in California, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in business management. While at Brigham Young University, John met and married his wife, Karma and together they made their home in Stansbury Park where they raised their five children. They have spent the last 40 years living in Stansbury Park.
Professionally, John managed construction projects for Jacobsen
Construction where he supervised projects such as the One Utah Center and two of the Huntsman Cancer Research Buildings, Seattle Latter-day Saint temple, Salt Lake City/County Building, City Creek Center, Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building, and many other hospital, research, and commercial buildings in the Salt Lake and Utah valleys. He recently retired from Jacobsen after 46 years of service.

Throughout his life, John has given countless hours of service to various organizations in Tooele County.
From 1987-1993, John served on the Stansbury Recreation Board where he was the chairman twice. Stansbury looked much different then. Growth was slow and budget constraints limited the Board to focusing on just operations of the clubhouse, swimming pool and golf course.
For 20 years (1989-2009), John served as President of the Tooele County Babe Ruth Baseball Association. During his tenure, participation in the program increased by 150%. One of his focuses during his presidency was to ensure that the organization was financially sound. Under his leadership the organization improved a number of ball fields within Tooele City and across the County including assisting in the positioning and layout of the two baseball fields in Stansbury Park.
John served as a a member of the Tooele County Planning Commission from 1984-1994 and again from 2019-2023. Being a part of the Planning Commission has given John the opportunity to learn the best practices of proper transitioning between residential, commercial, and open space as well as the importance of long-term planning.

Because of John's history of volunteering, he was honored with Utah's Best of State for Individual Volunteer in 2004 and the Volunteer of the Year Award by the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce in 2009. In 2024, John was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce.
Now retired, John is seeking additional opportunities to get involved and give back to his community. He believes recreation is vital as it gives opportunities for our youth and adults to develop physical and emotional skills. In addition, properly developed recreation and green belt areas can beautify a community and make it feel like home. He is excited for the chance to once again serve on the Stansbury Recreation Board where he hopes that through collaborative planning and careful budgeting he can help Stansbury Park continue to be the wonderful place that it is.
